How To Eat Ice Cream And Lose Weight!

I may have mentioned to some that I have a big blog post coming about Pride. It is still in its birthing stages as my virtual life is currently taking a backseat to my actual life.

However, I have just returned from the place that does my weighing in thing. This was my first visit since Pride - I figured I needed a few days to drop the pounds I must have gained with all the:

wine (an embarrassing amount)
beer (not as much as the wine)
hot dog
bbq beef on a bun
dim sum with Lex&Ger, Jeff and Vicki
chips
ice cream ... TWICE!
boob cake, courtesy Courtney. Chocolate and vanilla. One of each.
I don't remember what I ate at Pam's. I think there were chips and I think I brought them. Actually, most of that evening is a bit foggy except for a few sweet moments early on that are most definitely not foggy. I also remember the bit at the end where I had to crawl over a very tall fence to get out of the fenced garbage area that I'd become entrapped in. But, I digress ...
Did I mention the dim sum? That was a whole lotta dim sum ... maybe the guylian saved me ...?

Then there was Canada Day dinner with Cate which featured cheese grits that one wishes to simply slather oneself in. Anything THAT good has got to be bad for you. Cate also plied me with beer before the cheese grits which, purely as a favour, a courtesy to a new friend, I consumed.

In short, I went to diet hell for several days. But, I'm back now ... and I'm down 3.5 pounds for a total of 58 lbs. I really don't understand how this is possible. Divine intervention, perhaps. Anyway, here I am, down 58 and ready for the final 32. Whoa.

Starbucks, wtf is this?

Do we really need a new piece of useless plastic in our lives? Is there a purpose for this instrument? It sort of resembles a swizzle stick, although the body is really too skinny to create an effective stirring motion, plus my particular coffee drink does not need to be stirred.

The top of the instrument fits perfectly into the oblong oval opening of the plastic coffee lid, which leads me to believe this was created to prevent those weird burp-like explosions of coffee that the lid can emit when the cup is full and in motion, say, when you're walking out of the store with your full drink.

Still, not necessary. I'd really rather do without another mass-produced, specialized piece of plastic people will only use once and not recycle.

To add insult to injury, the top of the instrument depicts a little character drinking hot coffee. I can't tell what or who this character is supposed to be - it has the face of an angry wolverine with the body of a mermaid, and bizarre tentacles coming out of its mouth/nose region (think Dr. Zoidberg from "Futurama".) By the way, the hideous character is also trademarked.

We watched Harvey with Jimmy Stewart tonight. Neither of us had ever seen it. I was surprised as I thought it would be lame, but it wasn't. It was funny and upbeat and all those other good things you might expect from such a movie.

Harvey was a Phooka -
According to legend, the phooka is an adroit shape changer, capable of assuming a variety of terrifying forms. It may appear as a horse, rabbit, goat, goblin, or dog. No matter what form the phooka takes, its fur is almost always dark. (its name is a cognate of the early Irish 'poc', 'a male goat', and it may lend its name to Puck, the goat-footed satyr made famous in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream), but it most commonly takes the form of a sleek black horse with a flowing mane and glowing yellow eyes.

If a human is enticed onto a phooka's back it has been known to give them a wild ride. But unlike a kelpie, which will take its rider and dive into the nearest river or lake to drown and devour him, the phooka will do the unfortunate rider no real harm. The Púca has the power of human speech, and has been known to give advice and lead people away from danger. Though the phooka enjoys confusing and often terrifying humans, it is considered to be benevolent. (from Wikipedia)

In this case, he was just entertaining and kept Jimmy Stewart out the nut house.
