DLNA certification ensures a device has been tested and proven compatible with various CE, PC and mobile devices designed according to the DLNA Interoperability Guidelines. Products certified by DLNA will bear a logo that will give consumers peace of mind that the device they are purchasing has undergone rigorous testing and conforms to the Interoperability Guidelines.

KHTML creator promoted to VP

Oslo, Norway-based Trolltech announced the promotion of KHTML creator Lars Knoll to VP of Engineering. Knoll's KHTML work was instrumental in the development of the Webkit open source browser engine that is fast gaining momentum in the mobile phone market. (Click for larger view of Lars Knoll)Knoll will head up the global development organization for Trolltech, a company specializing in cross-platform development tools and increasingly, embedded Linux software stacks for phones and other mobile devices. Leading development teams in Norway, Germany, and Australia, Knolls responsibilities will include helping to define product road maps, maintaining oversight of Trolltech's commercial product development, and overseeing contributions to open source projects. An expert in Linux web browsers and user interfaces, Knoll was Trolltech's lead developer and a major contributor to open-source projects like Webkit and the KDE (K Desktop Environment). Knoll is also leading a Trolltech team that is building WebKit into Qt, Trolltech's desktop application development framework, and into Qtopia, the embedded version of Qt. Trolltech had previously announced that the Qt integration would be made available with the Qt 4.4 release in early 2008.Knoll joined Trolltech seven years ago when he was recruited by Matthias Ettrich, KDE creator and Trolltech's Qt development manager, says Trolltech. Since then, Knoll has contributed to projects including the Sharp Zaurus, and has worked on streamlining cross-platform application development. Knoll has a Ph.D. in physics from the Max Plank Institute in Heidelberg, and he also studied at Isreal's Weizman Institute of Science. Knoll is best known, however for his lead role with the KHTML rendering engine, which took nearly three man years to write. Originally part of the KDE project's Konqueror browser, KHTML is now found in 75 software products, says the company. It was the basis for Webkit, which in turn was the foundation for the Apple Safari browser that is used in numerous Apple products including the iPhone. Webkit has been adopted by Nokia and implemented as part of the Symbian S60 smartphone. Technical Ramblings -- accelball: Python + N95 accelerometer demo

So, today, I built a small application to demonstrate the use of the accelerometer built into the Nokia N95. I decided to convert a simple example: the ‘ball.py’ example that ships with Nokia’s distribution of Python for Series 60 (SourceForge).

Cell Phone Software Reads To The Blind

K-NFB, a joint venture between Kurzweil Technologies and the National Federation of the Blind, is making its reading software available on the Nokia N82 mobile phone. It will be the smallest text-to-speech reading device to date, the company said.

Review: Nokia N82

In the box we found the phone, a 1050 mAh battery, a standard Nokia charger, a USB data cable (not used for re-charging), a TV-out composite cable, a 2GB microSD, and a 3.5mm headphones/handsfree. The N82 comes in a silver color and despite all its features, it weighs just 114 grams. In fact, I dare to say that overall, it's the same size as the iPhone, even if in comparison the N82 will look thicker. If you take into account the extra features it's got, technologically speaking Nokia is delivering a "same overall volume" phone as the iPhone. Regarding its functionality, the N82 had great battery life and excellent reception. Audio voice quality was very good too, one of the best we've seen lately. Bluetooth worked very steadily and was very fast, and WiFi too.

2007 in Review: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - Mobile Gazette

Just to show that the big names don't have it all their own way, the Swedish-designed O2 Cocoon impressed us with looks and features. We like the cheap and stylish Sagem my150X and the Motorola FONE proved to be both clever and cost effective. The Nokia 7500's mad design may not appeal to all, but you have to admit that it looks like nothing else.. apart from the Nokia 7900. Another mad looking phone is the Samsung Serenata, a handset that looks like it has dropped out of the future via a wormhole. Two Korean 5 megapixel camera phones fighting it out are the LG Viewty and the Samsung G800 - both seem to be excellent devices that will scare the competition. Another Nokia, the Nokia E90 brought the Communicator series bang up-to-date, but it didn't really capture the public imagination.

Excite News - Review: Rival Phones Vs IPhone

The iPhone has one button on its face. It always does the same thing: takes you to the top menu, where icons representing all functions of the phone - music player, Internet browser and more - are laid out in a clear manner. Wham, you're out of the labyrinth.
