I found this site called Buy iMovies by clicking on a Google Ad. I was expecting the Google Ad to bring me to an AppleTV site or the iTunes store but instead it brought me to this sort of unofficial looking Buy iMovies site. They advertise the ability to purchase from anywhere in the world downloadable MP4 movies that can be played onthe iPod Video, iPod Touch, and iPhone. From browsing through their library of movies they seem to have a fairly large selection ranging from older classics to new movies. They also have a small selection of TV shows available for purchase. I was wondering is this really a legal site? I would guess no, and them using the name iMovies alone I would expect Apple to have them shutdown pretty soon. I didn't buy anything from them but then again I am curious, if you do purchase the movie from them could you then download the movie? If so is this legal or not? Again my guess is it's not legal.
If you take a look at this site I'd like to know what do you think? Legal or not?
I have had the iPod Touch for 1 week now and have found a critical bug. MP4 videos that are VGA resolution (640x480) recorded with Nokia Nseries devices (N93, N93i, etc.) will sync using iTunes and will display a thumbnail in Videos on the iPod Touch but when I try to play the video no video output is displayed! The video is opened and audio is played and can be heard but the video output remains black/blank! This seems to be a bug specifically for VGA (640x480) resolution videos because I have tried playing other MP4 videos recorded with different resolutions and they play fine with video output displayed. MP4 videos that were 320x240 (QVGA) and 352x288 resolution could be played fine. The 640x480 MP4 videos recorded with Nokia Nseries devices (Nokia N93, N93i, etc.) play without any problems in Quicktime on both Mac OSX and Windows XP so this is a bug specifically for iPod Touch. I don't have an iPhone to check with but possibly the problem is in iPhone also. Firmware that is on the iPod Touch is sw Version 1.1.1 that is the latest available.
I received my iPod Touch delivery at my apartment in Saitama, Japan today. I ordered it from the online Apple Store on September 29th. After placing the order I received an E-mail from Apple stating the due date for the Shipment from Apple was between October 11th - October 16th and the Delivery due date was between October 17th - October 22nd! This seemed like a long wait but I guessed that many people had placed orders for it and that was the reason. However a few days later on October 3rd I received another E-mail from Apple stating that my iPod touch had been shipped from Apple and was on it's way to the delivery courier and I could expect to receive it by October 8th. In the afternoon of October 5th I received another E-mail from Apple stating that my shipment had arrived at the delivery courier and included a tracking ID and URL for tracking the shipment. I checked the shipment status at night on October 5th and the shipment was checked in at the delivery courier's South Tokyo location. On Oct. 6th, Saturday morning I checked the shipment status again and was surprised to see the shipment had reached my city but was in a neighboring town! I wondered how long it would take the delivery company to delivery my iPod Touch to my apartment when it was only in the next town over. Just before noon the doorbell rang, it was a delivery man holding a box with my iPod Touch in it. I signed the form and took the box inside. I don't know how I received my iPod Touch so much faster than the estimated arrival date. I suppose it is either because Apple shows the worst possible case of latest shipping and arrival dates so that customers aren't disappointed by a late delivery or Apple increased production to meet the demand for the product in Japan and other countries around the globe. This is the first iPod I have purchased, so far the delivery/shipment experience has been a good one.
An interesting concept device similar to Sony Ericsson's Bluetooth watches.
The iPod Touch video guided tour is now up on the Apple Japan site. Besides being in Japanese the video content is different than the US iPod Touch video that mostly focused on the WiFi Music Store.
The Japanese iPod Touch video is presented by a Japanese woman. She walks you briefly through the hardware (3.5 inch touch screen, headphone jack, iPod connector, WiFi antenna, 8 mm width, power button, home button), how to unlock and lock, Calendar iss briefly opened, Music features explained (play, pause, fast forward, rewind, playlist, coverflow, etc.), next videos are explained (widescreen view, fullscreen view, fast forward, rewind, pause, etc.), Photo Gallery is explained after that (landscape and portrait views by rotating, zoom in/out by pinching, double touch also zooms in/out, slideshow), WiFi Music Store was next explained basically covering the same content as the US iPod Touch walk through, after that Safari Browser is explained (URL entry, entering Japanese text, Search via Google or Yahoo, Zoom in/out by double touching, Landscape or Portrait views, etc), then YouTube was explained, and lastly all of the features described are mentioned.
The main reason for the extra explanation of features is because the iPhone guided tour video was never translated into Japanese because iPhone won't be available in Japan for some time. My wife said that it was strange how the woman was moving her hands while she talked since Japanese people don't really do that.
