Jonathan Coultan performs Still Alive on Rock Band along with guest band members Leo Laporte, Merlin Mann, and Veronica Belmont. Awesome video!
I just listened to TWiT 123 and heard the news of a man in the UK that was fired for taking sick leave via SMS. The man brought his former company to court for inappropriate firing and won the amount of salary he lost due to the firing. This is very interesting to me since in my company most of the time people use SMS or E-mail to call in sick.
The policy for my job is you can send an SMS to the team leader and/or manager to let them know you're going to be out and they reply to the message to acknowledge they received it and it's ok. If you send an SMS but you don't receive a reply then you can either call them or send another SMS to a different team leader or manager and wait for their reply. Basically just have to confirm that they received your message and that they don't have any important questions about your daily responsibilities that can't wait a day while you're out. So I found it very strange when I heard the news of that man in the UK being fired for this. Then again I work for Nokia, that of course makes mobile devices so that might be one of the reasons that the policy is allowed. To me it's easier to send an SMS to take sick leave than to call and speak to somebody on the phone when I'm not feeling well.
Now this has caught my interest, do you think SMS is a way of communication that should be permitted to take the day off as long as you ensure the message was received? Do any other companies completely frown upon the use of SMS or E-mail to call in sick or is it the other way around that most companies accept the use of SMS or E-mail to take sick leave?
Listened to TWiT 119 on the train commute home from work with the N82.
Leo has posted on his Vox blog that for the foreseeable future he will be posting on his own Leoville blog. This is a switch from Vox to hosting his own blog using WordPress. It looks like the change was mostly prompted so that he could have more control over his own blog posts that is very understandable considering how much content Leo puts out. Already there are more Blog entries on his new blog than have been in the last several months on Vox. If this makes more sense for Leo and increases his blog posts it's good news for the Leo fans and TWiT Army.
Heard this great song on MacBreak Weekly episode 51. Beware it's addictive.
I just saw that a new Netcast is available on the TWiT Netcast Network on the topic of food! I for one am looking forward to listening to it.
It's named Munchcast that is said to be a weekly show about the delicious but often fatty foods in our lives. Anyone that checks out my photos knows that I enjoy a sweet snack or two every now and again. =)Show us a photo of a Leo you love.
Leo was asking about this site on TWiT 100.
