Jero is the first Black Enka Singer to become successful in Japan. His grandmother was Japanese, after World War II she married a black American and moved to the US. She taught her grandson, Jero, traditional Japanese Enka songs. Jero grew up in America but decided to visit Japan to learn more about his Japanese roots. He took part in a TV show Singing competition and won, shortly after that show aired he appeared on other TV shows and became even more well known.
Interestingly he is popular amongst older Japanese because of his great singing ability, but also the younger Japanese like him because he tends to dress in hip hop style clothes and dances in hip hop style to the songs he sings.
I agree he has a great voice. The clothes are ok, that is his choice to dress how he wants. I wasn't that impressed with the dancing but his voice makes up for the dance moves.
Watch this video! A Japanese orchestra playing a cover of Smoke on the Water. It sounds bad ass..until they start singing. The Japanese translation doesn't sound quite right but the instruments sound great.
Wow great video! It's funny yet clearly points out there are problems with how TSA acts and what it does at airports. The public perception of TSA may not be very far from what is depicted in this video.
Jonathan Coultan performs Still Alive on Rock Band along with guest band members Leo Laporte, Merlin Mann, and Veronica Belmont. Awesome video!
Notorious MSG are an Asian-American Rock/Rap group formed in Chinatown NYC that are bringing an interesting new sound and style while striving to represent Asians that are under-represented in the US music industry. Check out their site for some of their music and videos of them playing live on tour.
The Notorious MSG's Beijing Blast dance is especially funny. It is explained on their site as, "The Beijing Blast is a centuries-old dance move that originated in
ancient China. It was originally used to summon the powers of the Sex
Gods before coitus .. Note the windmilling of the arm which usually precedes the blast. It is
also important not to over-use the move, for that will anger the Sex
Gods…and once again, your genitals will implode."
Great music video starting off with the tech stock bubble pre-2000 and ending with the current web 2.0 hot companies/sites.
