Would you rather give away your money or give away your time?
Submitted by Ross
I'd rather give away my money. More money can always be earned but time can not be taken back. There is a limited amount of time to spend doing the things that you have to do and the things that interest you.
It's been a year since the launch of Justin.TV -- a site featuring "lifecasters" -- people who broadcast their lives on the internet via live video 24/7. What's your take on the "lifecasting" phenomenon? Do you find it engaging to tune into other people's lives on the web?
With the continually increasing amount of digital video cameras and broadband internet Lifecasting is only going to get bigger. Don't forget there are several new services that allow you to Lifecast right from the camera of your mobile phone. Three off the top of my head are Qik, Flixwagon, and Seesmic.
I don't regularly watch Justin.TV or other Lifecasters but I occasionally watch them. I find it most interesting when the lifecaster attends a conference or event that I myself am interested in. It's like getting a first person view of the conference when you're not able to be there.
The Tokyo St. Patrick's Day Parade took place today in Omote-sando, Harajuku, Tokyo. The parade was scheduled from 2-4 PM but it was shorter than that. The parade today started a little after 2 and was over by 3 PM. But it was still great. Nice to see lots of people showing their spirit by wearing green and Irish style clothes. Below are some photos from the parade taken with my Nokia N82. There are lots more on my Flickr account if you want to see more of them.
Who or what do you really love?
Who=my wife and my family.
What=technology, including but not limited to: GNU/Linux, video games, Nintendo, Wii, S60, Nseries, Apple, Vox, Mozilla, Firefox, TWiT, and the Web!
What do I not love?
What=microsoft and their monopolistic, unstable, proprietary, greedy, money grabbing software and company.
Valentine's Day in Japan is the day of women giving the men in their lives chocolate, ranging from boyfriends, husbands, and even including co-workers or classmates. The Japanese term for this I think is Giri Giri Choco. In one month there is another holiday celebrated in Japan called White Day. This is the holiday where guys give gifts to the women in their lives that gave them chocolate on Valentine's Day. Unlike in the States there isn't very much romance in it, then again maybe Japan understood Valentine's Day but just scheduled it differently since Christmas in Japan is pretty similar to Valentine's Day in the States. Since I'm a "westerner" I try to continue to celebrate holidays in a more western way. Thus since Valentine's Day in the US is celebrated by both men and women giving gifts to each other, I went ahead and bought chocolate for my co-workers, but then on White day I don't give chocolate. As for my wife, I gave her some gifts and chocolate, and in exchange she gives me gifts on White day, yes that is the opposite of how most Japanese celebrate it. Now with the explanation out of the way on with the photos of Valentine's Chocolate at work. Photos were taken with the Nokia N82.
What are your favorite sites for shopping online?
ThinkGeek for cool clothes and gadgets.
Audible for audiobooks.
And MobiPocket for mobile E-books.
"Halo 3" was released this week - did you get a copy? What are your early thoughts on this final installment of the blockbuster trilogy?
I don't own an xbox 360 so no I didn't get a copy. I have heard that Halo 3 isn't as good as Gears of War though as far as graphics or gameplay. The Totally Rad Show guys gave it an okay review but not great.
What shows are you looking forward to in the new fall TV season?
Where do you get recommendations for new books to read?
I check out the audio book recommendations from TWiT Netcasts and look at them from Audible.
For eBooks I get from MobiPocket and read them on my Nokia N93.
Also in general I read/listen to anything Scott Sigler works on. Scott is a great horror/action author.
You have $100 to spend online in the next hour. How are you going to spend it?
Probably give half of it to my favorite Netcast Network and spend the other half to buy a couple Audio books from Audible. By the way you can get one free Audible Audio book for free by signing up from the URL http://www.audible.com/twit .
